LAS Media: Who are your band members and what do they play?
STAY: Nick plays bass, Anthony A plays drums, Steve and Andrew play guitar, and I'm Anthony and I sing.
LAS Media: How did you guys come up with your band name Stay?
STAY: Stay was the name of the warship that my grandfather was stationed aboard during World War 2.
LAS Media: How did you guys get started making music?
STAY: I think we were all in different bands since we were kids and eventually we just ended up gravitating towards each other once our previous bands broke up.
LAS Media: What's your writing process like?
STAY: It always ends up being kind of different actually. On our first EP Andrew wrote most of the music and a lot of the vocals and I kind of filled in the pieces whereas on our Summer Sampler he and I kind of wrote our own songs. On new record, American Cherry Bomb, Andrew again wrote the majority of the music and he and I then kind of split the writing of the vocals for all of it.
LAS Media: What are some bands that influence you and your band and also influenced you growing up?
STAY: Totally Less Than Jake! I'm listening to Borders and Boundaries right now and it's such trip back to high school for me. Same with bands I'll always love like Blink 182, Brand New, and Jimmy Eat World. If you asked me what some of my favorite albums were they'd be by those artists for sure.
LAS Media: What’s your favorite song off of American Cherry Bomb and why?
STAY: I'd have to say Motor City because it was one of the first times on one of our records I really started to say something I wanted to say and didn't really hold back. It has a different feel to it that I love and it's really fun to play live.
LAS Media: A lot of your fans favorite song is The Monsters. Can you explain what the song is about?
STAY: That song was written about a recurring nightmare I was having about someone I loved eventually falling in love with someone else and my miserable reactions to having to deal with with it as a part of life. It's basically based around the idea of not wanting someone to move on from you.
LAS Media: Where are your favorite places to play live?
STAY: Some of my favorite places to play live are Boston, Virginia Beach, and Hartford!
LAS Media: If you could play anywhere live where would it be?
STAY: I've really wanted to perform overseas but even before that I'd love to be able to perform on the Main Stage at the Worcester Palladium. I've seen so many bands I've loved perform there so it's definitely one of those, "If I play here, I've made it" kind of things.
LAS Media: What are some of your favorite bands right now?
STAY: I actually really started diggin the stuff off the new Wonder Years record as well the new Title Fight. I'm also a big Ke$ha fan and I just started listening to this band called Funeral Party. Also go listen to Farewell Fighter and Safety Word Orange.
LAS Media: Gigi from NJ wants to know if you could play with any band/singer dead or alive who would it be and why?
STAY: Queen with Freddie Mercury because he was just unbelievable and Blink 182 because it's a childhood dream and on my list of things I need to do before I die.
LAS Media: Victoria from NJ wants to know what are your future goals for the band?
STAY: Right now I'm recovering from some health conditions that left me in the hospital for awhile so my main focus right now is getting better so we can get back to performing. The next immediate goal is to get out of the debt we're in right now from recording costs so as soon we do that we can get back on tour which will be rad. We're also going to be working on new music over the summer and releasing our record in Japan very soon which is also super cool.
LAS Media: And lastly, where do you guys see yourself in the music industry within the next few years?
STAY: Hopefully we're continuing to become a larger band and we're continuing to make better and better records. And touring more and more. All of that would be fantastic.
